Chromaticism differentiations: How variegated homogeneous stones used in buildings can gain diversified aesthetic appeal

This manuscript presents the results of a research about change in colour five different dimension stones, which are worldwide used for cladding and paving, whenever undergoing surface processings. Substantial changes features, such as roughness gloss were measured correlated with CIE parameters. A spectrophotometer has been this to measure coordinates L*a*b* L*C*h spaces stone samples, have surface-finished by using traditional methods (i.e. polishing bush-hammering), advanced technologies (pure water-jet) diamond-disc sawing. The show that variability chroma (C*), is much higher some (Orosei Marble Rosa Portogallo Venato) than others (Bianco Carrara D, Verde Guatemala Sardinian Basalt), result finishing. Hue (h) shows significant variation especially when tested. Bush-hammering brings all tested rocks lightness (L*) values. When total difference (ΔE*) recorded, pure water-jetting preserves original stones similarly exception Orosei Marble. direct correlation between ΔE* mean average (Ra) found.
